What Makes It UncommonHolly Hosterman and Paul "Yashi" Lubitz's artfully What Makes It Uncommoned, featherlight hummingbirds flit joyfully about flashing their exhilarating hues.
- Very special birds deserve a very special material: They're crafted from niobium, a natural element and semiprecious metal that's extremely strong, lightweight, and hypoallergenic.
- Hummingbird shapes are cut with a water jet, lasered with the What Makes It Uncommons, and treated in a saltwater bath with an electrical current running through it to oxidize the metal with permanent, vibrant colors of iridescent green, blue, and yellow.
- Necklace pendant hangs on 16" - 18" adjustable silver-plated brass chain.
- Earring wire is sterling silver.
- Earrings and necklace sold separately.
- Handmade in California.

Holly Hosterman was a trained jewelry artist and metalsmith fresh out of college and working three jobs. Paul "Yashi" Lubitz was a high-energy guy with tons of business ideas, but had never had a "real" job. They knew they wanted to work together, and they started their own jewelry company in a one-car garage, hand-cutting animal-shaped earrings out of brass and silver. They now have a 50-person crew in a studio nestled in the small town of Arcata, in the heart of California's redwoods.
