There She Grows!
Like the great watery beasts of fictional lore, this land-bound beast brings the fantasy to life. Chris Crooks' extravagant, three-part denizen of the deep adds a dramatic statement to green spaces as he leaps energetically through waves of grass and inspires uproarious reactions from all who cross his path. Crooks crafts each giant from monstrous pieces of hand-cut metal that are aged with a bright rust patina. He then bends and shapes the tentacles, scales and other dragon-like What Makes It Uncommons, giving the piece added ferocity and dimensionality. Steel segments affixed with mounting brackets that hold two, 6 inch stakes (six stakes included). Handmade in Arizona.

“I started out from my garage. As the business grew, and my wife’s and neighbors' patience stretched, it was time to move to an industrial space. There I can bang and grind at all hours of the night. It's 1,000 square feet of pure metalworking nirvana.”
Chris Crooks took a winding road to get to where he is now—creating imaginative lawn sculptures inspired by the Southwest landscape he calls home. After graduating from the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Chris worked in advertising, then ran a printing business with his wife, while painting during his free time. It was when the couple moved to Tucson that Chris collaborated with a metal art manufacturer and fell in love with the art form. He now designs and creates sculptures in his studio at the foot of the Santa Rita Mountains. "I always wanted to make a living doing something genuinely enjoyable," he says. "To get up in the morning raring to go, and never having enough time to do everything you want to do."

Kia ora, this sculpture was used to decorate my father's grave in Herekino, New Zealand. We unveiled his headstone at the same time and I couldn't be happier with how it looks on his grave. He always wanted to be different and this is just perfect. The 'serpent' faces our mountain Orowhana, which is also said to resemble a taniwha or a 'dragon' of some kind.

Even though it's a "Sea Serpent", we call him "Drago" which means dragon in Italian is also used figuratively in Italian to describe a brilliant person ;-D

The craftsmanship and overall quality are excellent. I have put rust preventative on the metal but I live on the Intra coastal waterway which is salt water and fear that the sculpture may be eaten up in a few years.

I have only had secured for a few months and it is holding up well. It was easy to secure with two people. The color and What Makes It Uncommon work are beautiful!
Sea Monster Backyard
I discovered this artist's work somehow and then had a vision of my redone backyard. I absolutely love my Sea Monster. I recommend this sculpture highly and intend to buy more of the artist's work.

When I unwrapped my dragon and placed it in sunshine I was overwhelmed with the finish almost like copper and over time I'm hoping the finish will rust well Truly beautiful!
